Those who knew Victor Andrew Johnson, the 44-year-old veterinarian who took over Dr. Joe Barnes’ practice in Polo, were stunned by recent events.
According to the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office, on Thursday, January 21, 2010, deputies had been dispatched to the man’s house on Highway 116 after a report of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered a white male suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken by ambulance to Liberty Hospital, where he died the following day.
Nobody has to proclaim that these are tight economic times. But it is the responsibility of Daviess County Clerk Linda Steward to officially record the county’s budget for 2010 and, as budget officer, present a budget message as an introduction to the columns of numbers which detail anticipated revenue and expense. Her budget message poses many unanswered questions.

To get a score of 300 in a bowling game is great for the
individual, but not too uncommon in a whole league of great bowlers; in
fact, it’s bound to happen. But when two people get a 300 in one night
is not only uncommon around here, it’s never happened, until now.
West Nodaway R-I has hired Elementary Principal Nancy Greeley as
superintendent for the 2010-11 school year. She will replace current
superintendent, Gary Battles, who will retire at the end of this school
year.
Lathrop Fire Protection District unveils it’s newest piece of equipment, Thursday, January 28th, a 2009 Crew cab Freightliner Pumper truck, with a Cummins engine.
The 1,000 gal. tank pumper replaces the truck purchased in 1990, which will go to Turney, Lathrop’s sub-station. “A good upgrade for Turney,” commented Gary Woodring, LFD Assistant Chief, and Turney Chief.
The Freightliner is equipped with a foam system, a A & B system that is used to extinguish gas and alcohol fires, the crew cab holds between 4-5 firemen, allowing enough room for firefighters to put gear on during the trip to a fire.
Purchased from Heiman’s salesman, Les Hinnen, out of Chillicothe, Mike Beasley, Gary Woodring, Gene Schoonover and David Eads, travelled to Sioux Falls, South Dakota January 14th, to bring the truck home from the dealership.
Deer hunters who have taken a good buck, whether it was during the recent 2009 hunting season or 20 years ago, can have their buck measured by a certified scorer free of charge at the upcoming North Missouri Outdoor Classic, Feb. 13-14, in Chillicothe.
